You’ve probably seen it by now, Arbys has a new “Roastburger”.  Here’s the link:

Well I had to go out and give it a try today.  It was pretty good, but is it really a burger? I would have named it  “Roast Sandwich dressed like a burger”.  Well, the good people at Arby’s did’nt complete their homework, and as a matter of fact, “Burger” has 2 definitions.  The first is “A sandwich consisting of a bun, a cooked beef patty, and often other ingredients such as cheese, onion slices, lettuce, or condiments. Often used in combination: a cheeseburger.”  By this description, the Arbys sandwich does clearly not have a cooked beef patty, and is thus not a burger by this decription.   The second description of a burger is “A similar sandwich with a nonbeef filling. Often used in combination: a crab burger; a tofu burger”.  Well, even in this case, the roastburger claims to be “Piled High with oven roasted, thinly slicedbeef.”  In the second description it specifically states “nonbeef filling” which this is not.  So according to dictionary.com the Arby’s roastburger, which is made of beef, is “technically” not a burger.

Wow! I can’t believe it can’t be defined as being a ‘burger’. Nice research!
